As Black Flags debut EP and the first ever release from the legendary SST Records, Nervous Breakdown represents a milestone in American hardcore. Black Flag mastermind Greg Ginn financed the EP and launch of his new label with the proceeds an electronics company catering to ham radio enthusiasts he started at the age of 12. That venture, called Solid State Tuners, passed its initials on to the the label it funded. Laying down the groundwork for what would become one of the most visceral bands of all time, Nervous Breakdown was the first release from Los Angeles' Black Flag. While it is certainly more punk than their later work singer Keith Morris sounds like a graduate from the Johnny Rotten school of diction, and Greg Ginn's guitar work is less modal, all the songs have the basic elements of what made Black Flag special: rage, anger, intensity, cynicism. Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown review: 5 minutes of raw, unadulterated punk rock. The EP begins with the title track Nervous Breakdown, which showcases everything that the listener is going to get from them for the rest of the EP: raw and furious guitar riffs from Greg Ginn and roaring, angry vocals from lead singer Keith Morris. Im about to have a nervous breakdown, my head really hurts. If I dont find a way out of here, Im gonna go berserk cus Im crazy and Im hurt. These angry, paranoid lyrics from the title track are exactly what is shown in each song on this EP. Nervous Breakdown 1978. Album by Black Flag. was covered in
