Album
Pianist Monty Alexander had a reunion tour with his former sidemen, bassist John Clayton and drummer Jeff Hamilton, in 1983. The resulting CD was recorded live in a West German club. Alexander is the main soloist as expected but Clayton has several memorable spots where he utilizes his bow, particularly on Charlie Chaplin's Smile. Other highlights of this excellent straight-ahead release include Two Bass Hit, Clayton's 'Blues for Stephanie, and Love You Madly. Both Clayton and Hamilton are nearly telepathic, but there is also a strong connection between Clayton and Alexander that is on every album they have ever of that is the duo album Alexander and Clayton did titled The Duke Ellington Song Book. The album was very energetic and upbeat with the climax tune being Blues for Jilly. Alexander recorded with Milt Jackson in 1969, with Ernest Ranglin in 1974 and in Europe the same year with Ed Thigpen.
