Title: "Bobst Library”
Recorded by: TAO LIN
Produce year: 2014
Exhibition date: 01st Sep ~ 21st Sep 2014 (JST)
What you are hearing right now, if you're at 1:48 of my recording, which I did via my iPhone's "Voice Memos" function, is me typing the words you're currently reading. I'm in Bobst Library, which is New York University's library. I'm in a computer lab with 24 Apple computers. I've probably been in this computer lab 2000+ times. Besides me, there are 6 people in here. I haven't counted the number of computers or estimated the amount of days I've been in here—that I can remember at the moment—until today, and I've been using this computer lab for something like the past 10 years. Feels kind of insane. The recording is now at 3:34. If you're listening to it right now you're hearing me type these words. (My iPhone is to my left, resting flat on a book, which is The Chalice and the Blade by Riane Eisler, which I'm reading as research for a column I'm writing on Terence McKenna for Vice Magazine. I typed everything in this parenthetical after I had finished the recording.) The recording is now at 3:50. It's 4:01PM in New York City on August 19, 2014.

College students, recent graduates, and their parents work at Denny's, volunteer at a public library in suburban Florida, attend satanic skapunk concerts, eat Chinese food with the homeless of New York City, and go to the same Japanese restaurant in Manhattan three times in two sleepless days, all while yearning constantly for love, a better kind of love, or something better. I think that Tao Lin is basically the transition point between German and traditional literature. Meaning he is probably actually more creative, as the point of change tends to be more interesting than the actual change. Unless the change is BS Johnson and he proceeds to kill himself, but that is another story. Tao Lin allows for undifferentiated emotional content. I mean it is certainly there, but it occurs in these weird amorphous blobs of emotionality. perhaps the desire to cry is a desire for a pure emotion. Let's go back to my 80s idea from my German review. Tao Lin was born in 1983, and raised in Orlando, Florida. In 2007 Melville House published his first two works of fiction, the short story collection Bed, and the novel Eeeee Eee Eeee, simultaneously. Lin quickly became an underground sensation with a huge cult following. In 2008, Lin published his poetry collection, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. It has been assigned as a text book in several college level psychology courses. Библиографические данные. Tao Lin chartsgraphs. What others are saying.
