The Orbserver In The Star House comes out on CD, 2 x 12 Orbserver in the Star House is the eleventh studio album by The Orb, released in August 2012, and featuring dub musicianproducer Lee Scratch Perry. Singles from the album include Golden Clouds and Soulman. The minimalist rhythm of Golden Clouds, a reworking of The Orbs Little Fluffy Clouds, has an optimistic, upbeat quality to it, as a double-tracked Perry communes with God. Hold Me Upsetter has a wacky bossa nova feel, courtesy of a warm vocal sample, as Perrys nonsensical chants are dubbed into oblivion. Legendary reggae producer Lee Scratch Perry has exerted an almost mystical pull on artists from across the musical spectrum ever since the halcyon days of his Black Ark studio, when he created some of the strangest and most compelling music ever to come from Jamaica his work with foundational reggae artists like the Heptones, Max Romeo, and the Congos remains both sonically unique. The Orb are almost as legendary in electronic music circles as Perry is in the reggae. Hearing is a feeling, sings Lee Scratch Perry on Ball of Fire, I am the maddest, scooby-dooby-doo and who would gainsay either claim This alliance with The Orb is positive for both parties, Perry providing a tighter rein on their tendency to meander, while they furnish him with a different terrain to his usual dub skanks, even bringing a more haunting tone to the familiar Police & Thieves. Elsewhere, fingersnaps drive Hold Me Upsetter, and disco hi-hats and quacking synths collude on Soulman, while Golden Clou. The Orbserver in the Star House incubated in the minds of Dr. Alex Paterson, the lone remaining founder of The Orb, and dub-legend Lee Scratch Perry for over eight years before the seminal artists reunited early in 2012 at a Berlin studio to record the albums 11 tracks. Joining the duo were longtime Orb collaborator Thomas Fehlmann, vocal engineer Tom Theil and special engineer Tobias Freund. As The Orbs first foray into a vocal-centric release, The Orbserver in the Star House fails to create a synergy between the players. Patersons deep respect for Perrys improvised vocals ultimately handicapping the eccentricities of each mans production prowess
