I am a huge 90's dance fan, and I have to say that this is no doubt an album that I would highly recommend. It's mixed very well, and most of the hits are very memorable.Disc 1 starts off with Robert Miles' Children which is a classic, as many can agree on. For starters, I like where the tracks are placed and the continuity, it's perfect. Kadoc's Night Train comes next followed by The Prodigy's Fire-starter and Lisa Marie Experiences' Keep On Jumping. The mixing is quite standard to begin with but becomes something flawless quickly. We have some great inclusions throughout such as Grace, the Klubbheads, and Everything But The Girl. It is outstanding, and I can recommend 'In The Mix 96 (2)' over any other megamix of it's time. Towards the end, we're given some lesser known hits like The Beloved's Satellite (Freedom Vocal Mix) and Felix's 96 remix of Don't You Want Me. Overall, it is a terrific follow up to the first 'In The Mix' as it is mixed well and never lost my interest.The second CD starts off slow with a few r n b hits but it does pick up by Mark Morrison's Return Of The Mack. Give Me Luv by Alcatraz is quite remarkable, as is Blackbox's Vibration, Dub star's Stars (my favourite from the album), East 17's Stay Another Day, Harmonix's Landslide (reminds me of U2) and Perfecto Allstarz's Reach Up (Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag). The album finishes on a high note with Baby D's So Pure (Original Mix). However, for all of it's strong points, the second half of the album sadly is nowhere near as strong or powerful as the first half, leaving a lot to be desired. While I did like Sasha & Maria's Be As One to a certain degree, it wasn't the best choice to have placed on a clubbing mix. I also found the inclusion of Everything But The Girl's Walking Wounded to be a pure filler, and nothing interesting sticks out about the hit whatsoever. That being said, there are many excellent examples of superb mixing, and I highly recommend to anyone who is at least interested in dance music.Overall, this album is outstanding and is definitely along the lines of 'perfection'. Highly recommended if you're simply seeking the best mixed album with all of your favorites from 1996

They dropped the "dance hits" off the tagline in this one, and now it's just "hits in the mix".CD1 starts off extremely strong, Children into nighttrain, but then gets derailed by the inclusion of Firestarter. The mix into it is pretty terrible (which is a first!). Firestarter is an amazing track, absoutely brilliant, but the sudden change from 4/4 kickdrum led dance into big beat feels out of place, coupled with the change in tempo which feels like you just tripped over. The mix out of it puts everything back on track, but the overall power of the mix doesn't really recover fully. On the plus side its packed with great dance tracks and only really falls short of brilliance by the order of the tracks and the firestarter hiccup.I judge these albums far too much by the mixes they used to do for the radio; got to try and look at them a little more objectively. Anyway.CD2 starts off with RnB/Hip Hop, which is a bit of a change, but they're all great tracks and mixed perfectly. Funny thing, I Got Five On It, completely unedited, but then you get to Coolio and they've censored it all over the place. Eventually it goes dancey again, and there are some amazing tracks (like Plux - Over and Over) which eventually morph into some more mature trance from (Salt Tank/Sasha/Harmonix). If it had stayed trancey that would have been quite interesting as it's a path that lots of mix cds from 98 onwards mimiced. However it gets a little bit harder with a hard house remix from TDV...only to suddenly fizzle out a bit with a bit of artcore/liquid DnB from Everything But The Girl. Which changes the whole mood, followed by the jungley/dnb So Pure. Its a bit of a wierd end to the mix and clearly an effort to touch on some other genres and appeal to a slightly broader spectrum of listeners.The mixing is solid throughout the CD (bar one which was a little noisey as melodies clashed). It teaters on being a bit of a genre mess, but there is enough in the middle of the cd to forgive the slightly off the wall nature of the rest of it.I was excited at first when I started listening as the tracklist is so promising, and the mixing nearly always good from these guys (even some songs which they have messed around with loops in order to make a more interesting mix), but the journey of the entire thing let it down in places. It's either slightly better than in the mix 90s hits, or slightly worse, I can't work it out. 3.3 stars.My own rating system:(336 out of 500)

Clever

This one is more or less equal to the quality of the previous album. I will say that CD 1 is pretty awesome without a dull moment, particularly when track 9 comes into the mix and it’s transition into Everything But The Girl. Second CD is near perfect until Salt Tank’s Eugina then goes downhill and never recovers. I can’t explain why I feel this way, but the mood changes from an intensive build up of dance music into trance, but then heads into the abysmal Be As One by Sasha and the not so great Lovetrain. S Express and Pure by Baby D are fantastic, but Walking Wounded is horrible and don’t know why it made it on here.It’s a great album, with a few flaws
